Nan and David announce their Honeymoon Walk For Charity

"Where does a newlywed couple go on their honeymoon, when they are making their home on a beautiful desert island where most newlyweds go on their honeymoon?"

We had to giggle at the irony of our situation.

We happily said "I do" on February 25, 2018, and we will now make our marital home on the beautiful island of Lanzarote, the easternmost of the seven Canary Islands, which though part of Spain, is located just 78 miles/125 km. off the western coast of Africa. The Canary Islands are known throughout Europe as roughly the equivalent of America's Caribbean Islands, and Lanzarote is a much sought-after honeymoon destination. But as we will be living on the island, the question naturally came up where we would spend our days after our wedding ceremony.

Watch the video above to find out what inspired us to decide to walk the 515-mile/823 km. walk along the northern route of the Camino de Santiago for our honeymoon!

More giggling ensued as we started talking about really, really doing this. Could we? Should we? The few doubts that crept in - we are both just shy of 60 years old; we are not hikers or even big outdoors people, neither of us even owns a pair of hiking boots! - were quickly dismissed. Something simply called us both to want to make this amazing spiritual journey at the beginning of our life together as husband and wife. (Thank you, Emilio!)

But as quickly as we made the decision to walk the Camino, it occurred to us that we also had a wonderful opportunity to help others. Throughout America (Nan's home country) and England (David's home country), walks for charity to raise much-needed funds are common. We realized our 515-mile walk could be a vehicle to raise funds for charity, too!

After making the personal commitment to each walk more than 1,000,000 steps along the El Norte Camino route, which stretches along the northern coast of Spain, we reached out to five non-profit organizations that we wanted to support with our journey. All of the charities were as excited about the idea as we were!

So! That's the story of us, and the story of how our Honeymoon Walk For Charity - A Million Steps With Love came to be! We hope you are smiling, as we (still) are. But that said, in order for us to be successful in raising money for the charities,we need people to know what we are doing!

There are several ways we want to invite YOU to journey with us along the Camino. Please watch our short video to know how you can be a part of our journey!

Also, will you help us by sharing our story with your family, friends, and co-workers, and/or making a donation to one or more of the charities for whom we are walking? All donations go directly to the charity websites via links provided on the charities' pages here on And, if you would like to make a tax-deductible donation before we begin walking, that's ok, too!

We are so very excited to walk the Camino de Santiago, and to raise as much money as possible for five incredibly worthy causes! Your well wishes and prayers for a safe journey are also most appreciated!

With warmest regards and thanks,

Nan and David
